"Thou Shall Not Steal"

We have all heard the saying "Business is Business." Many people use this to justify their wrongdoing. In the music industry a lot of things are done that are unethical but there is one thing that is very common in music today, stealing.

Recently Cash Money Records artist Lil Wayne released his ninth studio album, The Carter IV. Lil Wayne collaborated with several artists but one particular collaboration stands out. “She Will”, a track featuring Drake, is being labeled as stolen. Atlanta rapper J-Lie is says the New Orleans rapper stole the beat of his original song entitled “Letting Go.” Now I know what you all are thinking. This guy is just some struggling rapper trying to get his big break, but he actually has proof that what he is saying not just smoke in the air.

With all that said, you think Lil Wayne got away with one, but not so fast. Rapper Rich Rick filed a lawsuit against Lil Wayne in LA Country Superior Court for a track that’s also on Lil Wayne’s Carter IV album, entitled “How to love.” Rich Rick says he purchased the track from a group of music producers called the Drumma Boyz between 2006 and 2009, according to TMZ.com. In 2010, the Drumma Boyz resale the same track to Lil Wayne for an exchange of 35% royalties.

Lil Wayne robs two rappers to complete his ninth album, but it does not stop there. Recently, Lil Wayne was hit with a $15,000,000 lawsuit over the track “BedRock.” Done Deal Enterprises filed a lawsuit on August 1, 2011, claiming Lil Wayne stole there copyrighted track “BedRock.”

Lil Wayne is been ordered to appear in the United States District Court, Southern district of New York on October 12, 2011. I guess business is business and the law is the law.
